About Us
Paige and Smoot Hull met in Houston, Texas and were married in 2000. After having full careers in the modeling and restaurant industry, Paige and Smoot opened The Vintage Round Top with their first cottage, No. 1450, in the spring of 2012.
Before owning The Vintage Round Top, Paige was the Vice President of Page Parkes Models. During her 22 years with the company, she helped build the agency from a local modeling center to the recognized powerhouse that it is today, which has represented the likes of Angelina Jolie, Alexis Bledel, and Channing Tatum. Currently, Paige splits her time between being a mother and running the many facets of The Vintage Round Top brand. Paige’s natural eye for design helped create their signature "Modern Vintage" style which has helped spread The Vintage Round Top name far and wide.
Smoot has owned and operated nightclubs and restaurants in Houston, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro, several of which have been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and LA Times Magazine. One of his most notable co-creations, the ever popular Empire Café located in Houston, is still successfully operating to this day. After selling his last restaurant, he was hired to run a start-up toy design company that won numerous awards, including Top 10 New Toys by CBS News. Since 2004, Smoot has owned and operated State Contractors, a successful general contracting business that specializes in the remodeling of apartment complexes. Smoot, along with his team at State Contractors, renovated and continues to help build onto The Vintage Round Top.
The Vintage Round Top grew organically from a casual Saturday drive with our three children in the Fall of 2011. That afternoon we stumbled across a farmhouse for sale in Round Top, Texas and decided to “live with intention” by stopping in to visualize our dream of owning a country home for our family. The realtor (Frank Hilbolt) educated us on the need for lodging during the Round Top Antique Fair. The town of 90 swells to 50,000-75,000 people twice per year, and lodging is in high demand. So, what seemed like an ordinary day, turned out to be the beginning of a new chapter in our lives.
We took a leap of faith by purchasing and completely renovating the home in what became our signature Modern Vintage style – a blend of clean, modern lines with vintage touches. That style was not common in the area and garnered the attention of the press, which helped grow the lodging business into a lifestyle brand. We’ve been honored to have been featured in magazines, coffee table books, and blogs like Country Living, Texas Monthly, and Conde Nast Traveler. If you'd like, you can see our full list here.
Having been avid Round Top shoppers for years, we naturally decided to try our hand in the antiques business. In 2012, we were mentored by the incredibly talented Tim and Carol Bolton of Carol Hicks Bolton Antiquities in Fredericksburg, Texas. With their guidance and encouragement, we traveled to France to buy one-of-a-kind pieces and sold our goods at the Marburger Farm Antique Show. Since then, we've continued to shop both locally and abroad to offer a hand-picked selection of vintage and antiques.
Our love of handmade and unique items led us to work with artisans to offer a RVT home goods line that reflected our modern vintage style. Our candles, soaps, pillows, and utility bags are designed with masculine and feminine qualities and are created with both modern and vintage elements. In 2013, we developed an online shop to offer both our curated vintage finds and handmade items.
After several years of operating our vacation home rental, we decided to expand our lodging offering by adding a second home to the property in 2016. We renamed the original cottage “No. 1450” (after the street address) and built an attached 2,000 square foot cottage with the help of Mars Architects and named it "Boho” (after the spirit, style, and feel we wanted to offer our guests).
Boho is attached to No. 1450 by a mud room and the cottages can be rented together or separately to give the most flexibility. It has a 900 square foot great room designed to hold workshops, retreats, and events. Our goal was to create a space that would be an inspiring backdrop for collaborations, photo shoots, and overnight guests.
We began to host our own workshops and retreats (which you can see here and here) and love being a part of helping others grow and start new things – may that be learning a new skill, meeting a business partner, collaborator or lifelong friend at one our events, or spending time together at a team building retreat. To offer more lodging and full property rentals for these types of events, we built two additional cozy cottages and an outdoor space named after our three children: the Pierce, the Eisley and the Cameron Lounge.
Having our children be a part of this process from the beginning has been a blessing! We believe in hard work, following our passions, and going after our dreams. Our hope is they will find and follow whatever has been placed in their hearts and will use the road map we've shown them through this adventure along the way.
We're truly humbled by the genuine reaction to our labor of love, and feel our pathway has been guided by God. We thank each and every one of you who have been interested in and supported our journey.
