MARY EMMERLING'S ECLECTIC COUNTRY
Paige Hull
You can imagine how Smoot and I felt like when we got the call that Mary Emmerling was interested in shooting The Vintage Round Top for her upcoming book. We 'd long admired her and the countless books she's created. We'd like to thank Mary Baskin, our mutual friend for telling Mary about our house.
When she and I talked by phone about the project, we gabbed for over an hour. She was funny, entertaining, down to earth, and a joy to talk with. She had story after story about her long career in publishing as well as the many years of coming to Round Top. The details were fascinating and I had a blast getting to know her.
Her new book is called Eclectic Country and it was photographed by Reed Davis. You can see a sample of the book and purchase it here.
We took she and Reed to Round Top Royer's Cafe for dinner the night before the shoot. Mary's eclectic style and playful spirit kept us laughing all night. Here she is with her Minnie I phone case and signature silver and turquoise jewelry.
Reed is such a pro! He's also a jokester. We had such a great time shooting and spending the day together.
Our photo was shot at Round Top Vintage Market where we have our antique space. Even though having my photo taken is not my favorite thing to do, Reed made it fun and put us at ease.
We invited our good friend Becki Griffin of Curious Details to come hang with us during the shoot. I knew she also loved Mary's work and would be great at jumping in to add some styling details if needed.
Overall, it was an amazing day and opportunity! We're beyond humbled that Mary wanted to include our home in her new book. We'll be forever grateful for the experience and for the chance to call her our friend!
