CHERRY BUTTERMILK CLAFOUTIS
Paige Hull
In the midst of a busy life, it's often times easy to forget to do the things that bring a little bit of joy to your world. Baking is one thing that can be very soothing to the soul. So when I stumbled upon this Cherry Buttermilk Clafoutis recipe featured on Epicurious, I had to try my hand at it.
The recipe is truly as simple as it gets, using only one bowl to mix the custard ingredients which is then poured over the cherries and baked! It can barely be described as baking, but as you can see, the end result looks like it took hours.
Living sustainably is an important part of the "Modern Vintage" Lifestyle, so I bought cherries that are in season for the summer. They were very sweet so the ginger and the buttermilk used in this recipe add a nice tartness to the simple custard. This custard base could be used with any other fruit really. It would be great with blueberries!
Serving this to my family and seeing them delight in something I made for them had me questioning, "Why don't I do this more often?"
Give yourself a little break from reality and make this for the ones you love this weekend. Also it helps that the end result is a delicious treat to be shared and savored.
