FRESHEN UP YOUR HOME FOR SPRING
Paige Hull
Spring is such a special time of year, with extra sunny days and the rich greenery all around. If you’re local to Texas, you’ve probably been enjoying the warmer temperatures for several weeks. If you’re still stuck in the snow, hopefully this post will at least help the inside of your home feel a bit more spring-like! We tend to design and style to keep things classic year-round, but there are a few simple ways to make seasonal updates to your home.
1. Swap out textiles
If you aren't ready to commit to a new style altogether but want to freshen things up, textiles are a relatively easy and inexpensive way to update a room. New throw pillows, curtains, or rugs can transform the look of a living room or bedroom, while swapping out placemats or dish towels can brighten up your kitchen and dining area.
2. Rearrange your furniture and/or decor
No need to purchase anything new if you can “shop” your own home and create a new setup that feels new to you. Move the couch where the chairs used to be, or move your bed to the other side of the room. You might be surprised how refreshing it can feel to have a new arrangement! Plus, it gives you a chance to do a thorough deep cleaning of those hard-to-reach spots behind large pieces of furniture. As an alternative to rearranging your furniture, changing out your decor pieces in different rooms can provide a new feel as well. I like to swap out some of our smaller antiques from storage for a season or two so that I can appreciate the memories of coming across each piece during shopping trips.
3. Hold a garage sale
Sometimes clearing the clutter is the best way to freshen up your home! Maybe you’ve accumulated a few too many finds at various antique or home goods stores (I'm right there with you!), and getting rid of some of that beloved stuff is in order. Gear up for some serious spring cleaning and separate things into donate and sell piles. Enjoying the mental clarity of a clutter-free home may be the best gift you give yourself all season!
4. Incorporate fresh flowers
If you want to take a simple route to freshening up, fresh flowers are the easiest way to make a room feel bright and cheery. Pick up a bouquet from your local florist, pop it on the kitchen table, and voila — spring in a vase!
