MODERN VINTAGE STYLE - CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

Paige Hull

A few of the things we enjoy about this time of year are the family traditions we take part in. Family traditions are an important part of our modern vintage lifestyle because they keep us grounded in an ever-changing world. As our kids get older, every year holds something new, but our traditions help keep us focused on the meaning of the season.

CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS, THE VINTAGE ROUND TOP

One of the traditions our family observes every year is the Advent calendar. Advent is a season of celebration leading up to Christmas, and the calendar is used to count down the days. We love following along the Advent calendar as we read Bible verses as part of a daily Advent devotional. Included with the Scripture are candies and little goodies for the kids. The Advent calendar is one of the special ways we celebrate our faith together as a family.

Another important tradition in keeping with our faith is the Christmas Eve candlelight service. We always attend our own church's candlelight service, or if we're traveling, we seek out a church service to attend on Christmas Eve. As a child, I remember attending the candlelight service with my family and being completely in awe of that magical moment when all of the candles are lit in a sea of light. Singing the last hymn of Silent Night brought a sense of calm and wonder as we celebrated Jesus's birth. It's an experience I love sharing with our kids now.

Ever since the kids could walk, we've held a scavenger hunt for their Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve. We usually spend Christmas Eve at my sister's and we spread out 5 or 6 clues around the house to lead them to their new pajamas. It's always such a fun tradition that the kids look forward to.

We have so many other Christmas traditions that we take part in as a family, and I get so excited when I hear about other family's traditions as well. Every family celebrates this season in a slightly different way, and it's so important to keep traditions alive. We've found that it's something our kids look forward to every year, and it's a great way for them to be able to participate. Traditions also create wonderful memories that are cherished for years to come. What are some of your cherished family traditions?
