HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE SPRING BUSINESS, BRANDING, AND SOCIAL MEDIA WORKSHOP
Paige Hull
With the fall edition of our Business, Branding, and Social Media Workshop series just around the corner, we thought we’d revisit our spring workshop. Co-hosted by Camila Alves McConaughey of Women of Today, the spring 2019 BBSM Workshop had a special focus on social media marketing and content creation. In addition to panel discussions, Q&A time, and the opportunity to network with one another the panelists, workshop participants were treated to a beverage and appetizer demo--complete with a break to taste all the goodies!--and got to take advantage of the spectacularly styled space to get started on their own content creation.

Thanks to a mind-blowingly delicious spread from Austin bake shop Easy Tiger, workshop attendees were greeted with an “Instagram-able” moment as soon as they arrived. Camila designed and styled this adorable pretzel wall, with Easy Tiger soft pretzels hung from simple handmade ladders, to create an interactive experience.
After workshop participants loaded up on baked goods, beer cheese, and Chameleon Cold-Brew coffee, we dove into our workshop programming, with Smoot and I moderating the panel discussions.
During our first panel discussion, Image + Identity: Building and Managing a Brand, panelist Ashley Rose shared how she has grown her popular DIY blog, Sugar & Cloth, into a multi-faceted brand with its own line of party and entertaining products. Camila Alves McConaughey discussed creating Women of Today, an online community and lifestyle blog, and the journey of her kid-friendly organic frozen food brand, Yummy Spoonfuls.
Camila and Ashley also led interactive content creation demos that involved a fun snack break, aka tasting time. Camila gave a tutorial on some of her favorite quick-and-easy appetizers that offer a high visual impact: beet hummus with roasted veggies, pesto tortellini skewers, and an incredible color-changing lemonade made with butterfly pea tea! To tie it all together, Ashley offered some practical styling tips for serving and entertaining. Ashley also styled a flat lay of our attendee swag bags, creating a visually appealing spread for participants to practice their newly honed content creation skills!
After the refreshments, it was time to talk social media management with the Digital + Social Media Strategy panelists. Camila and Ashley were joined by People magazine food editor Shay Spence and Colony Creative LA owner Grace Helfrich for a discussion on marketing small and personal brands. Colony Creative LA manages social media accounts for the likes of Nate Berkus, Daisy Fuentes, and Tamera Mowry, and Grace offered her perspective on using media to create relationships with your audience. Shay, an avid Instagram user himself, gave insights on how to pitch ideas to digital media editors.
