Country Home Magazine Takeover + Spring 2023 Round Top Antique Show
Karissa Widder
Now that the dust has settled from the 2023 Spring Antiques show (and we’re almost caught up on sleep), we’re recapping some of the fun events we got to experience and sharing some details about the show and town.
Being one of the first modern vintage home rentals in Round Top and having hosted guests over the last twenty two shows, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to watch our tiny town and antique show grow, have developed friendships with so many incredible humans, and amassed a lot of knowledge over that time about all things Round Top!
This year, we were honored to share our insider perspective with Country Home Magazine through an Instagram Takeover in celebration of our recent feature in their spring edition of the magazine (on newsstands now- grab a copy if you haven’t yet!)
We’ll do our best to explain the magic of Round Top, but at some point you’ll have to experience it for yourself. Words can’t do it justice! One thing is for sure - there was no way to fit in all of the amazing venues, vendors, shops, restaurants, and events that RT has to offer in the time we had. But, we’re grateful we got to share a snippet of our little slice of Texas with Country Home’s followers during the show and with you all every day here at The Vintage Round Top.
In addition to our meet and greet, we shopped, dined, attended dinner parties and author talks, caught up with friends, visited the local longhorns, and shopped some more. There’s an electricity and excitement in this town during the show that is palpable.
We received a lot of questions during the takeover about the show itself, so are sharing a quick overview below along with a link to our Round Top Antique Show Guide and Round Top Year Round Guide.
A little bit about the show…
Round Top, Texas is located in between Houston and Austin. It’s the largest Antique Show in the US and is held in March (spring) and October (fall) as well as a much smaller winter show held in January. The tiny, quaint town of 90 residents, can grow to 75-100K.
The entire show was started by Emma Lee Turney over 50 years ago at the Round Top Rifle Hall. That one weekend was the catalyst for what the show is today - seventeen + days, 65+ venues, thousands of vendors, over a 15+ mile radius on Hwy. 237 and surrounding towns.
Shoppers and vendors come from all over the world to shop and sell unique items. In the last few years, it’s become more of an Antique + Design Show with furniture, décor, art, clothing, etc. There’s a little bit (or a whole lot) for anyone’s taste and pocketbook including antiques + vintage (of course), but also handcrafted goods, reproductions, and brand new items as well.
We created our Round Top Antique Show Guide many years ago to help shoppers navigate this amazing seventeen + day event with lots of details. You can find it here!
A little bit about the town…
When we opened eleven years ago, there was very little going on in between the shows. At that time, Royers Cafe, Bybee Square, and Festival Hill were the main draws. A great addition was Henkel Square which was a game changer and definitely helped push the growth of the town.
Over the decade since, it’s blossomed into a year round destination with amazing restaurants, shops, wine bars, art galleries, event spaces, live music venues, and, of course - antique shopping (especially at the large venues like Market Hill, Round Top Ranch, and The White Barn that are open during the show and year round.)
Additionally, there are a lot of events like the chili cook off, wine fest, music fest, etc. - so make sure to check exploreroundtop.com to keep up with all the activities. And… be aware its predominately a Thursday through Sunday town, however there are a few businesses open on Wednesday and Brenham, LaGrange, and Burton are only 15-20 minutes away for any weekday needs.
It’s the perfect place for both those wanting to get away and relax or a place to see and be seen.
Our Year Round Guide is loaded with information, including the smaller towns that surround us. You can find it here.
A little bit about us…
The Vintage Round Top is a home rental and event property with four separate cottages (one with a 900 sq ft event space); an online modern vintage shop; and offers growth, creative, and wellness retreats + workshops; plus collaborative media events.
We’re conveniently located on Hwy 237, one minute by car to town and walking distance to nine venues during the show. The proximity makes it easy to pop in and out and enjoy all the fun around us and in town.
Our motto of “Living With Intention” is what created this opportunity for us to serve others and provide spaces that are unique, soulful, and restorative. You can read our full story here.
A little bit about our history with Marburger Farm…
Not too long after we opened, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Europe with Tim + Carol Hicks Bolton to learn the “antique business buying ropes”. When the container arrived back in the states, we became vendors at Marburger Farm in the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014, with the intention to sell our goods, meet people, and get our name out.
It was an incredible experience, but kept it to only two shows since our kiddos were young at that time and ALOT goes into being an antique vendor. We decided instead to open an online modern vintage shop that you can see here.
Our Marburger Farm roots run deep as we continued to partner with them after our 2014 show through our Business + Branding + Social Media Workshops as well as many other promotional events. So, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to hold our meet and greet with them to celebrate the Country Home feature.
We hope you’ll get to come experience the Round Top Magic for yourself sometime soon. And if you do, give us a holler - we’d love to host you!
Thank you again to Country Home Magazine for both the beautiful feature and opportunity to share our sweet town.
xo,
Paige
