We were so excited when Kirsten and Brandon Dickerson of The Fernweh Studio reached out to do a retreat with us during this past antique show! Smoot and I had met them years before when we toured their rental property, Green Acres, in Elgin, Texas. We’d been big fans of Kirsten’s fair trade retail business, Raven & Lily and Brandon’s directorial projects and knew this new venture would be just as amazing.

With the fall edition of our Business, Branding, and Social Media Workshop series just around the corner, we thought we’d revisit our spring workshop. It’s no secret that Smoot and I love designing with white paint. While white can seem like a no-brainer, there are actually hundreds of paint shades available--each with its own subtle variation in undertone. Now that we’ve completed four cottages with white interior paint, we want to share a few of the things we’ve learned along the way. Read on to learn our tips for choosing the perfect white for your space!

With Mental Health Awareness Month coming to a close, Smoot and I want to share a little more about our personal experiences with this important issue. I’ll preface that we were inspired to share our stories from the brave work of Val Van Galder, one of Smoot’s longtime friends from Los Angeles. Val’s passion project, Depressed Cake Shop, aims to raise awareness about mental health by partnering with local bakeries to create “depression-themed” treats—cookies and cupcakes with greyscale frosting. The goodies are meant to start conversations, promote awareness about self-care and mental-health resources, and raise funds for local mental health organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Eight years ago, we decided to fully commit to Living with Intention and purchase the property that would become The Vintage Round Top. At the time, our priorities were twofold. I was blessed to grow up in a home that celebrated Christmas with lots of traditions. Some of those I carried on with our own family — buying and decorating our tree on Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas Eve Candlelight church services and tamales for dinner, opening one present the night before Christmas (my favorite when I was a kid).
